What Does A Routine Foot Care Visit Involve?
- A brief review of medical history, medications and allergies that relate to foot health for individualized care.
- An assessment of foot structure, possible swelling, general foot health, circulation and a brief screening for neuropathy.
- A visual inspection of the nails to determine the best approach for the following care:
trimming nails, filing and smoothing the nail edges,
reducing thick nails for comfort and prevention of pressure, reducing calluses for comfort and prevention of complications, rounding nail borders to prevent infection and pain from pressure, cleansing with a gentle antimicrobial and hydrating with lotion. - A light foot massage to promote circulation and lymphatic drainage.
- Recommendations, if needed, for follow up care or helpful care at
home. - Foot care may be provided every 8-12 weeks to maintain foot health.
- This service is not reimbursable by Medicare and cannot be submitted
to Medicare or any other medical insurance. It is not a service for
diagnosis or treatment of medical problems. - The foot care nurse is an independent, registered nurse and certified
foot care specialist in routine foot care, exercising her independent
professional judgement concerning foot care and treatment.
